Alan Stone, 82, of Albany, died Saturday, April 6, 2019 at his residence. Funeral services will be held Thursday, April 11, 2019 at 3:00 PM at First Baptist of Albany. Born in Dallas, Texas, moved to Lubbock, Tx. with his family in 1944. It was in Lubbock that he spent his formative years. After high school, Alan joined the U.S. Army, serving three years including a tour of duty in Korea. After being Honorably discharged from the Army, Alan attended Texas Tech in Lubbock, Texas, then later on he attended and graduated from The School of Radio Technique in New York City, a school of broadcasting. After this, Alan spent a number of years in the broadcasting business, working in various capacities in radio and TV stations, in Virginia, West Virginia, Texas, New Mexico and California, including management of two broadcasting stations properties in New Mexico and North Dakota. Alan had multiple careers. At some point, he became interested in the healthcare industry, and, after completing several courses of studying healthcare management, and an internship at a Dallas Nursing Home, he managed a number of nursing homes and rehabilitation facilities in Texas, New Mexico, Oklahoma, Iowa, Indiana, and ultimately Georgia. It was the latter that brought him to Albany, Ga., in 1979. Still, there was one more career. Alan became interested in marketing and sales and joined Mckesson Drug Company when they opened a new veterinary drug and pet supply division in 1982. This division was later sold to Colgate Palmolive, and it was from Colgate Palmolive that Alan retired in 1996 as an award winning Territory Manager.
Alan's greatest love was the Lord and he often remarked that he enjoyed many good things in life due to the benevolence and blessings of God. The love of his Wife, Carole, was very obvious to those who knew Alan; he once remarked, "Carole is not only the love of my life, she IS my life". Alan also had great affection for his children and grandchildren. His greatest pleasure was family get togethers. This was followed by his love and long association with the First Baptist Church of Albany, Ga. where he formed many rewarding relationships over the years. He ultimately was ordained as a deacon and, over time, served on a number or committees, was part of quite a number of inreach and outreach projects, and taught Sunday School for 32 years.
Alan was preceded in death by his mother, Ruby Edna Bobo Stone, father, Lindell T. Stone Sr., and brother Lindell T. (Teddy) Stone II.
Survivors include his wife of 49 years, Carole Stone, Daughters, Sabrina Lawless of Elberta, Alabama and Cheri Collins of Albany Ga. Sisters, Cynthia Fawcett of Richardson Tx., Arden Stone of Temple Tx., Sarah Stone of Round Rock Tx., and Becky Stone of Round Rock Tx. Grandchildren, Monica Tber, Josh Collins, Shawn Collins, and Jeremy Lawless, and 4 Great grandchildren.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to caregiver, Brenda Stuart. Those who wish to designate a memorial may do so to First Baptist Church of Albany, 145 Oakland Parkway, Leesburg GA, 31763.
