Leon Thompson

Allen Leon "Buck" Thompson, 98, of Eudora, passed away at Mercy Hospital, on Sunday, September 25, 2022.
He was born March 21, 1924, to Alvin William and Pauline McCulley Thompson. He was married to Orpha Dale Dodson on August 27, 1945, and they celebrated 76 years together. They were blessed with three sons.
Buck graduated from Marion C. Early High School in Morrisville, Class of 1943. He served during World War II in the US Navy on the USS McGuire delivering supplies in the Pacific Theater. Buck often referred to God touching his heart and was saved as a young man. He became a member of the Eudora Baptist Church and supported its ministries, especially to the youth of the community and working in the field of building churches. He achieved Master Mason with the Walnut Grove Lodge. He retired after 30 years of employment with Lily Tulip in Springfield, MO as a machinist. In retirement he enjoyed fishing and maintaining his yard. He treasured memories of working with regional church building with Missouri Baptist Mission, traveling to the Holy Land, and traveling on the Missouri Honor Flight to Washington, D.C.
He is predeceased by his wife, his parents, his brother William R "Pete," and his son, Allen Wade.
He is survived by his sons, Rickey Thompson (Jeanne), Tim Thompson (Sandy); daughter-in-law, Linda Thompson; seven grandchildren, Deborha (Steve) Hinton, Becca (Aaron) Cusher, Susan (Scott) Johnson, Nancy (James) Green, Adam (Bonny) Thompson, Matt (Jessica) Thompson and Lynnell (Bryan) Jenkins; sixteen great-grandchildren; three sisters, Grace Yokley, Hannah Vest, Linnie McGowen; sister-in-law, Meda Thompson. He is also survived by nieces, nephews and friends both from the Eudora community, the Baptist Church and from Maranatha Village where he resided the past 3 years.
The family requests that in lieu of flowers memorial gifts be directed to the Eudora Baptist Church.
Visitation will be held from 10:00AM until service time, Saturday, October 1, 2022, at Eudora Baptist Church, Eudora, MO. Funeral services will begin at 11:00AM, at the church, with burial to follow at Eudora Cemetery. Services will be led by Rev. Kevin Marcum.
