Berta Jean Meltabarger 90, of Ash Grove, passed away Tuesday, September 7, 2021. She was born on April 2, 1931, in Everton, MO to Arthor Leonard and Ethel Marie (Pringle) Johnson. On September 12, 1948, Berta and Harold Lee Meltabarger were united in marriage and shared nearly 59 years together, before Harold's passing in 2007.

Berta was a lifelong area resident and graduated from Ash Grove High School. She worked at Wilkerson Motors and then went to work at Bank of Ash Grove, retiring in 1993 after 31 years. Berta was a member of the Ash Grove First Baptist Church. She enjoyed gardening, fishing, embroidering, and loved her scratcher tickets. Berta was a Missouri State University Lady Bear season ticket holder. She loved her family, especially her time playing marbles. Berta loved going to her grandchildren's activities and Wednesday night dinners with the family.  Mema, which she was often known as, will be greatly missed by all those that knew and loved her.

Berta is survived by her daughter, Jane Ellen Walters and husband Glenn of South Greenfield; son, Hal David Meltabarger and wife Tammie of Nixa; grandchildren, Meghan Walters, Kelsey Hicks and husband Jerod, Taylor Lasater and husband Elijah all of Springfield, Paige Meltabarger of Effingham, IL, Logan Meltabarger and wife Bailey of Chesterfield, Lane Meltabarger of Nixa; great grandchildren, Cooper and Cora Hicks, Brock and Kynlee Meltabarger, Elle, Dean, Reid and Hayes Meltabarger; brother, Don Johnson and wife Wilma, Texico, IL; other family and many friends.

Berta was preceded in death by her husband, Harold Lee Meltabarger; daughter, Patsy Lee Meltabarger; siblings, Lloyd Johnson, Mildred Friar, and Louise Hudspeth.

Friends may come by to view and sign the book from 9:00AM-6:00PM, Friday, September 10, 2021, at Wilson-Griffin Funeral Home, Ash Grove. Visitation will be from 10:00AM until service time on Saturday, September 11, 2021, at Ash Grove Cemetery, Ash Grove, MO. Graveside services will begin at 11:00AM.
