Calvin D. "Bud" Martin, 89, of Walnut Grove, passed away in his home on Friday, September 30, 2016. Bud was born in Brownton, Minnesota, the son of William and Alice (Klopfleisch) Martin.
Bud Martin and DeLoris Saxton were united in marriage on March 15, 1947. To this union, three children were born. Together they were privileged to share over 61 years of marriage.
Bud was a former resident of Springfield, MO, residing in the Walnut Grove area for the past 23 years. He was a true cowboy, a successful cattleman who raised quality horses, and was a PRCA gold card member. He attended Cowboy Church at the Springfield Stockyards and was a friend with a smile and kind word to all who knew him. He lived a long life and enjoyed his many blessings but, for him, nothing compared to the time spent with his wife, children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife, DeLoris, on November 27, 2008; his parents; and one sister, Mary Lou Sandstrom.
Bud is survived by one son, Thomas S. Martin and his wife Linda of Ohio; two daughters, Jacqueline (Martin) and husband, David Gilkey, and Debra (Martin) and husband, Philip Robertson, all of Walnut Grove, MO; seven grandchildren, Leslie (Johnson) and husband, Mark Schuh, Diane (Johnson) and husband, Justin Smith, Colin Martin, Kelly (Martin) and husband Jason Downey, Taylor and wife Mallory Robertson and Spencer Robertson, Wade and wife Sabrina Gilkey; seven great-grandchildren, Calvin and Ellie Smith and Hannah and Sydney Schuh, Reece Robertson, Hunter and Faith Gilkey; a close family friend, Joe Pike, and many other family members and friends.
Family will receive friends from 6 to 8 PM Tuesday evening, at the Wilson-Griffin Funeral Home, Walnut Grove. Graveside services will be held on Wednesday, October 5, 2016, at 10 AM, in Greene Lawn Cemetery, Walnut Grove, with Rev. Scotty Killingsworth officiating. Interment will follow under the care and direction of Wilson-Griffin Funeral Home, Walnut Grove.
