Obituary

Wilma "Doris" Kirby King, 87, of Ash Grove, passed away on Tuesday, December 11, 2018.

Doris, the daughter of Charles H. and Margaret (Peoples) Kirby, was born in Detroit, MI, on April 15, 1931. Doris and Larry "Max" King were united in marriage on August 28, 1954 and shared over 63 years together, before Max's passing earlier this year. Doris and Max were inseparable partners in life and in their business of the family farm.

Doris was very active in the United Methodist-Presbyterian Church where she was a member of the choir and served as church treasurer for many years. She also used her accounting talent on the farm, where she kept the books and took pride in balancing everything perfectly to the penny. Doris was also active in 4H with her daughter Debbie and she was a member of Russell Chapter 109 Order of the Eastern Star for over 50 years. She loved working in her vegetable garden and canning the harvest. She was a huge basketball fan and particularly enjoyed watching the Lady Bears. More than anything, Doris loved her family and spending time with them, especially her daughter and grandson. She will be fondly remembered and greatly missed by all those that knew and loved her.

Doris is survived by her daughter, Debbie Pelkie and husband James of South Carolina; grandson, Gregory Pelkie and wife Kelly of Colorado; sisters, Barbara McClelland and husband James, Norma Costley and husband Bill, Charlene Jaeger and husband Jim, brother, Bob Kirby and wife Beverly; sister-in-law, Evelyn Kirby; nieces, nephews, cousins, other family and special friends.

Doris was preceded in death by her husband Max; daughter, Brenna Sue King; and brother, Kenneth Kirby.
