Dorothy Johnson, 100, of Ash Grove, Formally of Springfield, passed away Wednesday, May 1, 2024 at the Ash Grove Healthcare Facility.

She was the sixth of nine children born to Roy and Eula (McCarty) Whitehead. in Greene County, Missouri.

Dorothy attended grade school at Pleasant Hope School and graduated from Ash Grove High School in 1941.

In 1943, she married James F. Johnson. They were blessed to share almost 49 years of marriage.

Dorothy accepted Jesus as her Lord and Savior during her youth, she was a longtime member of First Freewill Baptist Church in Springfield.

Dorothy was a homemaker; she was a talented quilter and skilled embroider who often gifted pillowcases and kitchen towels to friends and family. She enjoyed sharing stories of growing up in a large family and attending a one room school. She loved spending time with her family and friends.

Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, James, brothers Chester, Arthur, and Conley; sisters Dalma Brown, Maxine Mead, Wanda Geren, Martha Whitehead, and Betty Killingsworth.

Dorothy is survived by her son, Marvin (Kathy); granddaughters, Kimberly Gray (Robert) and Stacey Bourbina (Tyson); great-grandsons, Ryan Bourbina and Elijah Bourbina; and great-granddaughter, Mallory Gray; as well as sisters-in-law, Betty Glinn and Dona Johnson; along with several nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be 3:00PM-5:00PM, Sunday, May 5, 2024, at Wilson-Griffin Funeral Home, Ash Grove. Funeral services will be 10:00AM, Monday, May 6, 2024, at the funeral home, with burial to follow at Ash Grove Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers memorial donations can be made to First Freewill Baptist Church or CMH Hospice and may be left with the funeral home.
