Evelyn M. Swann, 99, of Walnut Grove, MO passed away on Saturday, September 9, 2017.

Evelyn the daughter of Chet and Dora (VanDorn) King, was born in Woodward, OK, on December 20, 1917.  Evelyn earned a teaching certificate in 1934 from Union College in Lincoln, NE., after which she began teaching elementary school in Woodward, OK.  It was while she was teaching that she met a hardworking taxi cab driver,  Ralph Swann, who regularly drove her to her job at the school.  Then in September 1937 Evelyn and Ralph Swann were united in marriage and to this union two daughters, Darwena and Fonda, were born.

Evelyn enjoyed spending time on the family farm and attending craft fairs, but her passion was her church.  Evelyn had been a member of the Springfield Seventh-Day Adventist Church for over 65 years.  She was active on the church prayer chain, taught weekly Sabbath School lessons and even traveled giving Bible  and health lessons throughout the state of Missouri.  Evelyn loved her church family dearly, always championing and encouraging others, especially the young folks,  to trust and obey Christ. She will be fondly remembered and greatly missed by all those that knew and loved her.

Evelyn is survived by her daughter, Fonda McMillen of Walnut Grove; 5 grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren; nieces, nephews, cousins and other family and friends.

Evelyn was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; daughter, Darwena Kerkhoff; and sister, Anita Helmer.

Graveside services will be at 10:00 AM, Friday, September 15, 2017 at Rose Hill Cemetery, Willard, MO.

In lieu of flowers donations can be made Springfield SDA Junior Academy and may be left at Wilson-Griffin Funeral Home.
