Frances (Harlin) Upfold McCully 95, of Ash Grove area passed away Tuesday morning, March 29, 2016, in her home following a short illness.
Frances,the daughter of Silas and Fannie (Phillips) Harlin was born October 25, 1920 in Plainview, Texas. She grew up in Texas and graduated from Cress High School in Cress, Texas in 1940. She received her B.S. of Education degree from South West Texas State University on May 27, 1948. She taught first grade for 37 years in
several elementary schools across the State of Texas. Many of the
schools Frances taught in had a large Hispanic population and in 1974, she became certified as a bilingual educator. Frances said when she was teaching she would always tell her students to "study hard so they would be good second graders." She enjoyed gardening in her flowers, sewing, crochet and reading. She was a member of the Baptist Faith.
She is survived by her family: including her son Rob Upfold of Nixa, Mo., brother, Bobby and wife Beth Harlin of Ash Grove and numerous nieces and nephews.
Service will be Saturday April 2, 2016 at 10:30 a.m. in Wilson Brim Daniel Chapel, Ash Grove, Mo., with Rev. Scott Killingsworth officiating with interment in Dreamland Cemetery, Canyon, Texas.
Family will receive friends from 9:30 a.m. until service time Saturday morning.
