Obituary

Franklin D. "Frank" McClelland, age 78 of Butler, Mo. died Wednesday, November 25, 2015 at Bates County Memorial Hospital in Butler. He was born into this world on the 26th day of November, the year of our God 1936 in Aldrich, Mo. to Claude Castle and Bernice Sweet McClelland.

Frank attended Walnut Grove High School. In December of 1953 he joined the United States Air Force, later transferred to Chanute Air Force Base in Rantoul, Il. and then returned to Missouri.

Frank married his high school sweetheart, Norma Sue Hicks in June of 1954 and in two years, Terry joined the family. The family was then transferred to Lowry Air Force Base in Aurora, Colorado. where Sherry was born. A year later they transferred back to Rantoul and a daughter, Tammy was born. Frank then received orders for overseas duty to Spangdahtern, Germany for three years where Norma and the children joined him. Later, Frank's job was in a measuring laboratory. Not long after, a daughter Pammy was born in Alamagorde, New Mexico.

Before returning to the United States, Frank took a month's leave where he traveled through 13 countries. After serving his country for 13 years, Frank decided to leave the Air Force and returned to run the Walnut Grove locker plant. Soon after, Frank went to work as a supervisor at the Bendix Plant in Kansas City, retiring at 55 in 1991. He then moved to Butler.

Frank loved to travel, taking kids every year on a long vacation. He managed to travel to every state but Hawaii. In his spare time, he did crafts and art shows with Norma. His passion was genealogy.

Frank is survived by his wife, Norma McClelland of Butler, Mo.; one son, Terry McClelland and wife Robin of Linn Valley, Kansas; three daughters: Sherry Tompkins and husband Craig of Belton, Mo., Tammy Raffurty and husband Michael of Sterling, Colorado and Pammy Smith and husband Ken of Albuquerque, New Mexico; 13 grandchildren; and 25 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-granddaughter. He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, J. C. McClelland and Jim McClelland; and four sisters: Ernestine Neil, Margaret Gann, Percine Hotchkiss and Virginia Vest.

Funeral services will be Monday, November 30, 2015, 12:00 p.m. at Rose Hill Baptist Church in Willard, Mo., with Rev. Ronnie Fieker officiating. Burial in Rose Hill Cemetery, Willard, Mo. Arrangements under the care and direction of Wilson Brim Daniel Funeral Home, Ash Grove, Mo.

The Family will receive friends in the church from 11:00 a.m. - 11:45 a.m. prior to the service.
