Juanita Hurd of Greenfield, Mo. departed this life on November 10, 2015 at Cox Medical Center South, in Springfield, Mo. at the age of 87 years, l month and 19 days. She was born September 22, 1928 in Taneyville, Mo. to the late Joe Thornton and Jessie (Coulter) McHaffie. She was united in marriage to Elza Hurd on March 6, 1946, in Taneyville, Mo.

Juanita retired from St. John's Regional Health Center with 27 years of service. She, along with her son Bobbie, also owned and operated Dogwood Dog Kennel where they bred and sold small dogs. She loved animals (especially Sea Willow and Icie) and enjoyed crocheting, knitting, gardening, fishing, reading and being with family and friends. Juanita was saved and baptized many years ago. She had great faith and was ready to go to a better place.

Preceding her in death were her husband, parents, her son, Bobbie Dean Hurd, three brothers: Joe Thornton, Carl Thornton and Dennis Thornton, and two sisters: Bela Jo Thornton and Cleo Alma McHaffie.

She is survived by six sisters: Martha Brockman and Ced of Niangra, Mo., Susie Whitaker of Greenfield, Mo., Dorothy Koenig and Emaline Hampton of Taneyville, Mo., Pauline Jarvis of Cabool, Mo., Maxine Smith and Ruthine Jones of Springfield, Mo.; five Brothers: J.W. McHaffie of Taneyville, Mo., Frank Thornton of Rogersville, Mo., Charles Thornton and wife Sara of Nixa, Mo., Francis Thornton and wife Pat of Marshfield, Mo., Bob Thornton and wife Katie of Lebanon, Mo.; and a host of nieces and nephews.

Juanita was a great inspiration to everyone who knew her and will be greatly missed.

Graveside services will be held on Friday, November 13, 2015 at 2:00 p.m. in Greene Lawn Cemetery, Walnut Grove, Mo. with Keith Thornton officiating with interment following in the GreeneLawn Cemetery, Walnut Grove, Mo. under the care and direction of Wilson Brim Daniel Funeral Home, Ash Grove, Mo.

Family will receive friends on Friday prior to the services from 12:30 p.m. - 1:30 p.m.
