Gary Don Hicks, 71, Ash Grove, Mo. passed away Monday afternoon in Mercy Hospital in Springfield, Mo. Gary was born in Walnut Grove, Mo. December 12, 1944, the son of Carl Edward and Nellie Mae (Goforth) Hicks.
Gary grew up in the Walnut Grove area. He attended and graduated from
Walnut Grove High School in 1962. He entered the United States Air Force in 1962 and served his country and made the Rank of E-4. Gary retired from Burlington Northern-Santa Fe Railway. He enjoyed working with his cattle and farming his farm. He was a member of the John's Chapel Fundamental Methodist Church.
Gary Hicks and Evelyn Fieker were united in marriage on October 21, 1963. To this union two children were born. Together, Gary and Evelyn were privileged to share over fifty three years. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers: Clarence and Gene Hicks; two sisters: Barbara Jean Hicks and Katie Morgan.
He is survived by his loving family: wife Evelyn; son, Kevin Don Hicks of Omaha, Nebraska; daughter, Kayleen Sue and husband Steve Hall of Overland Park, Kansas; six grandchildren: Michael and wife Elizabeth Hall, Nikki and husband David Renberg, Brad Hall, Katie, Megan and Abby Hicks; 3 great grandchildren: Sawyer Hall, Summer and Finley Renberg; four sisters: Betty and husband Jim Hall of Morrisville, Mo., Norma McCelland of Butler, Mo., Carol and husband Dub Lester of Springfield, Mo. and Judy and husband Francis Fortner of Willard, Mo. two brothers: David and wife Linda Hicks of Andover, Kansas and Danny and wife Ernestine of Walnut Grove, Mo. and numerous nieces and nephews.
Service will be Friday, June 3, 2016 at 2:00 p.m. at Wilson Brim Daniel Chapel, Ash Grove, with Revs Ronnie Fieker and Jerry Nickle officiating with interment following in Rose Hill Cemetery, north of Willard with Military Rites under the auspices of the Missouri Military Honors Team.
Family will receive friends Thursday evening in the funeral home from 6:00 p.m. - 7:30 p.m.
