Obituary

Hazel Marie (Sloan) Taylor, the daughter of Jesse Clay and Bertha (Aldrich) Sloan was born May 31, 1933. She passed away December 23, 2023, in her home surrounded by her family.

Hazel was born in Springfield, MO. She graduated in June 1951 from Central High School in Springfield, MO. She was an active member of the Bois D'Arc United Methodist Church where she had been a Sunday School teacher, a member of UMU and was always available to help in anyway with Vacation Bible School until her health prevented her from doing so. Hazel was also an active member in the Bois D'Arc Braves 4-H Club as a leader in boys cooking, several sewing groups, child development, and floral arrangements. She loved caring for her family, cooking, and canning. She loved to bake and specialized in hot rolls and cinnamon rolls. All of her grandchildren called her "Nana" and she will be greatly missed by all of her family.

Hazel and Oris Junior Taylor were united in marriage, July 1, 1951 at Bois D'Arc United Methodist Church. They were privileged to share over 42 years together prior to Junior's passing in 1991.

Hazel was preceded in death by her husband, Oris Junior Taylor; her parents, Jesse Clay and Bertha (Aldrich) Sloan; her son-in-law, Stephen Thornbury; and step-grandson, Justin Thornbury.

Hazel is survived by her children, Tywana K. and husband Todd Starr, Phyllis and husband Tom West, Donald (Donnie) and wife Leann Taylor, Gary Taylor and fiancé Michelle Rote; six grandchildren, Twila and husband Chris Hollis, Angela West, Doug West, Tamra and husband Shawn White, Clayton Taylor, Jessica and husband Jason Wilson; twelve great grandchildren, Taylor Hollis, Breanna Hollis and fiancé Koleby Washam, Caden and wife Isabella West, Madilyn West, Andrea White, Karissa White, Erynn White, Shawn White Jr., Skyler Taylor, Chase Kroll and Janessa Wilson, Gavin West; two great-great grandchildren, Ava Marie Breesawitz and Jackson West; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, other family and many friends.

Visitation will be from noon until service time, Tuesday, January 2, 2024, at Bois D' Arc United Methodist Church. Funeral services will begin at 1:00 PM, at the church, with burial at White Chapel Memorial Gardens.

In lieu of flowers memorial donations can be made to Bois D'Arc United Methodist Church.
