James Lee Squibb, Bois D'Arc, born Dec. 18, 1929, to James P. and Nora Squibb, passed away Sept. 2, 2016, at Quail Creek Nursing Home, Springfield.
James, a graduate of Bois D'Arc High School, studied agriculture for two years at Southwest Missouri State University, before joining the Air Force. James was united in marriage to Betty Darlene Early, May 6, 1952, at St. Luke United Methodist Church, Bois D'Arc, where James was a lifelong member.
After receiving his Wings in the Air Force Air Cadets in December 1951, he served as a jet pilot, in the Korean War. He was an all-weather, night fighter. Prior to his deployment he was stationed at Hamilton AFB, Hamilton, Calif.
James returned to his Bois D'Arc home and became a full-time farmer, as well as full-time father and husband. He was active in the community, where he co-founded the Bois D'Arc Volunteer Fire Department, serving as chief for 29 years. He also helped establish the Bois D'Arc Water District. James was active in the leadership of the Bois D'Arc United Methodist Church, and enjoyed his church family. He also served as Chairman of the Board for the district Farm Credit Services.
James is survived by wife Betty, of the home; son Steve Squibb, wife Pam, Springfield; daughter Cheryl Cadorette, Tulsa, Okla., and daughter Julie Griot, husband Neil, Springfield; grandchildren Alissa Hurley, husband JJ, Tulsa. Okla.; Suzanne Richter, husband Rob, Baton Rouge, La.; Ryan Squibb, Springfield; Adam Cadorette, wife Amanda, Little Rock, Ark.; Travis Cadorette, wife Tong Tong Gong; Austin, Texas; Corey Griot, Kansas City; Cameron Griot, Springfield; great-grandchildren Natalie, Will, Cole, Evan and Jordan.
Preceding James in death were infant daughter Christine Squibb, son Tim Squibb, his parents and aunt Natalie Wood.
Funeral services will be at 1:00PM on Tuesday, September 6, 2016, at Wilson-Griffin Funeral Home, Ash Grove. There will be no formal visitation, but Mr. Squibb will be in state from 4:30PM until 8:00PM Monday, September 5, 2016 in the funeral home.
Memorial Contribution can be made to Bois D'Arc United Methodist and may be left at the funeral home.
