Jerry Allen Ulrey, age 81, of Springfield, MO passed away Thursday, October 13, 2022 at his home surrounded by family. He was born November 7, 1940 in Robinson, IL, the son of Otto Kenneth Ulrey and Bernice Chapman Ulrey. Jerry and Marilyn Buckner were united in marriage on March 3, 1962, sharing over 60 years together.
Survivors include his wife, Marilyn Ulrey of the home; children, Scott Ulrey (Polly) of Walnut Grove, MO; Steve Ulrey (Stacy) of Palestine, IL; sisters in law, Betty Ulrey of Robinson, IL and Lois Ulrey of Robinson, IL; grandchildren, Robby Weaver (Melanie), Cody Ulrey, Sarah Weaver, Jacob Ulrey, Wyatt Ulrey, Jamie Dew (Evan) and Cooper Ulrey; great grandsons, Toby and Ryker, numerous nephews, nieces and cousins and a host of friends and acquaintances. He was preceded in death by his parents, son Jeffrey Lee Ulrey, sister Loretta Boyd and husband Allen, brothers Rondall and Kenneth Gene Ulrey.
Jerry was a 1958 graduate of Casey High School, Casey, IL. In 1960, he received a medical discharge while serving in the USMC. He attended barber college in Decatur, IL and was a barber in Martinsville, IL for many years. The majority of his career was as a salesman selling barber/beauty supplies and coffee supplies after moving to Ft. Collins, Colorado. Retiring to Missouri in 2002, Jerry became a local handyman and worked on everyone else's problems.
As a young boy, Jerry accepted Christ as his Savior during a revival at Willow Creek Cumberland Presbyterian Church. He was a member of Second Baptist Church in Springfield, MO.
Jerry enjoyed the Ozark Mule Days, ground hog hunting, and cherished time spent with his family and favorite dogs.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Saturday, October 22, 2022 at Willow Creek Cumberland Presbyterian Church, Martinsville, IL with Bro. Billie Ray Ulrey officiating. Burial will follow in Butternut Cemetery, Martinsville, IL. Visitation will be held from 9:00 a.m. to 11 a.m. prior to the funeral service.
