He worked 34 years, retiring from Empire at age 55 to do what he loved best, spending time with his family and taking care of his farm and cattle. He never tired of reminiscing his high school basketball days with his team mates that went to State, winning third in 1960 and second in 1961. He enjoyed attending his children and grandchildren's ballgames, missing very few.

He was a member of the Everton Christian Church serving as an elder and Sunday School superintendent.
