Obituary

Mata L. Calkins, 86 of Ozark, formerly of Kansas City, passed away Saturday, February 5, 2022. Mata was born on September 16, 1935, near St. Louis, MO. On September 7, 1963, Mata and Raymond Calkins were united in marriage. They shared 57 years together, before Raymond's passing in 2020.

Mata had a passion for children and taught in the Kansas City School district for 30 years. Even after retirement she volunteered in the school system. Mata never met a stranger and was a giving and kind woman to the core. She loved spending time with her grandchildren and going to Japanese Steakhouses. Mata was also an avid animal lover, especially her cat Jerome. Mata and Raymond also loved to travel the world together. They also supported St. Jude's Hospital. Mata also loved her pink and purple flowers. She was loving known as Aunt Sis from all of her nieces and nephews. Mata will be greatly missed by all those that knew and loved her.

Mata is survived by her son, Richard E. Calkins of TX; grandchildren, Richard H. Calkins and wife Linsey, Lauren Sanders and husband Stephen, great grandchildren, Colton, Donald, Thomas; sister, Sandra; other family and many friends.

Mata is preceded in death by her parents; husband Raymond; and several siblings.

Private services will be held at a later date.
