Mike McVay, 68, of Willard, Mo. passed away on May 30, 2016 at Cox South Hospital surrounded by people that loved him, following a courageous and hard-fought battle with melanoma cancer.
Mike was born June 24, 1947 to Fred McVay and Myra (Stockstill) McVay. Mike spent most of his childhood years growing up on the family farm outside of Walnut Grove on Clear Creek and attended Walnut Grove Elementary and High School where he met and maintained several special friendships that lasted his lifetime. Mike worked hard his whole life and was lucky enough to retire at age 51, after 30 years, working route sales at Foremost/Hiland Dairy. Mike was a quiet, kind and good-hearted man who loved his family dearly. He would do anything for the people he loved. Mike was a member of Harold Baptist Church, Eagles Lodge Mt. Vernon, and Greene Hills Country Club. Mike enjoyed the simple things in life like reading books, watching his grand kids play ball, family dinners, visits with friends and playing golf with his best friend/brother-in-law, Frank and his other Greene Hills buddies. They walked many a mile on that golf course. Mike was proud to have made a hole in one. He had a heart of gold and was loved by many.
Mike is survived by two children: his son Brad and wife Jodi McVay of Walnut Grove, and his daughter Brianna and husband Chris Nunn of Springfield; two sisters, Karen and husband Harold Garrison, Vickie and husband Frank Blakemore; six grand kids: Brady Nunn, Ciarra Nunn, Kelsey Cross and husband Aaron, Myranda, Makayla, and Montana McVay; three great grandkids: Kylee, Kenlee and Aadon Cross; and a baby on the way. Also Many special aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and a special friend Wanda. We would also like to say a special thanks to our Aunt Karen and Aunt Vicki and to his "much younger" cousin Susie, who spent many hours at the hospital with Mike and the family during this difficult time.
Visitation will be held at Wilson-Brim-Daniel Funeral Home in Walnut Grove on Thursday June 2, 2016, from 6-8 p.m. and Graveside Service at White Chapel Cemetery Friday, June 3, 2016 at 10:30 a.m.
