Nicholas L. Downing, 35, of Ash Grove, passed away Tuesday morning August 9, 2016 in his home, after fighting a 21 month battle with brain cancer. He was born January 28, 1981, in Mt. Vernon, Missouri to Thomas L. Downing and Sue (Rhoads) Downing.

On November 19, 2000 Nic was married to Shawna Drake and they have shared the last 15 years together.

Nic was a chemist for Brewer Science in their research and development department in Rolla, Missouri. He was a member of American Chemical Society and a Boy Scouts Leader. Nic enjoyed a good argument and always knew he was right. Nothing compared to the time that he was able to spend with his family and friends, especially his children.

Nic is survived by his wife, Shawna of the home; three children, Alex, Alyssa, and Ayden all of the home; his mother, Sue Downing; one brother, John Downing and his wife Ginnie; one sister, Kristy Battles; one niece, Kassy Battles; one nephew, Dallas Battles all of Ash Grove; mother-in-law, Zoe Heidrich and husband Steve of Willard; brother-in-law, James Fortner; sister-in-law Melanie Fortner both of Springfield and numerous cousins, and friends. Nic was preceded in death by his father, Thomas L. Downing; and one brother, David Downing.

Funeral Services will be 1:00PM Saturday, August 13, 2016 in the Wilson Griffin Funeral Home Ash Grove, MO. Visitation will be Saturday from 10:00AM until service time in the funeral home.
