Patrick J. Johnson, 52, passed away in Springfield, MO, Wednesday, February
15, 2017, after a long, hard-fought battle with cancer. He was born January 5, 1965, in
Smithville, MO.
Patrick married Carey on January 3, 1987, in Ash Grove, MO. They have one
daughter, Madilyn.
Patrick grew up in Plattsburg, MO, and graduated high school in 1983. He
graduated from Southwest Missouri State University in 1987, with a Bachelor of Science
in Business Communications. In 1988, Patrick and Carey returned to Plattsburg and
worked for a short period of time at his family's car dealership.
Patrick moved back to the Springfield area in 1989, where he began his career
as an Allstate Insurance agent. He soon became one of the top producers in the nation,
and then started his own business, Patrick Johnson Financial Services, in 2007. Patrick
was the youngest to ever be inducted into the Allstate Hall of Fame in 2009.
In 2003, Patrick purchased his first racecar and began his dirt racing career. He
became the DLRA Legends Champion in 2006, and then began his dirt late model
career in 2007. In 2010, Patrick purchased the Jetmore Motorplex in Jetmore, KS,
where he later named it the "Great American Dirt Track." He owned the track for 4
years.
Patrick served as a board member of Hickory County Farmers Mutual. He also
was a member of CreativeOne, Athene, Genworth, Nationwide, Fidelity, Guaranty,
Lincoln Financial, Delaware Life, Great Plains, Horace Mann, Security Benefit,
EquiTrust, Prudential, Lincoln Benefit Life, Client One Securities, Pershing, Gleaner,
Gradient, and Capital Life. He is also a member of Center Baptist Church.
He loved the outdoors, hunting, growing crops, racing, and watching his
daughter, Madi, play basketball.
Patrick was preceded in death by his father, William McBride. He is survived by
his wife Carey, daughter Madi, mother Margie (Dean) Johnson, sister Pamela, brother
Timothy, mother-in-law Doris, father-in-law David, one half-sister Gina Estes, three
half-brothers Shawn, Matt, and DJ McBride, three nephews and one niece.
Visitation will be held Sunday February 19, at Wilson-Griffin Funeral Home in Ash
Grove, MO, from 4 to 8:00 p.m. Funeral services will be held Monday, February 20, at
10 a.m. at Center Baptist Church, Ash Grove, MO. Burial will take place at the Ash
Grove Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Center Baptist Church.
