Richard Allen Barker, Sr. 72, of Walnut Grove, Mo. passed away on Thursday morning, March 17, 2016 at 7:47 a.m. in his home following a
short illness.
Richard, the son of Robert and Loretta (Goodnight) Barker, was born August 29, 1943 in Kansas City, Mo. He grew up in the Kansas City area and graduated from Central High School in 1961 and received a
B.A. degree from Riverside College in California. He served in the
Navy during the Vietnam War, residing in California before returning
to Missouri some thirty years ago, and had resided in the Walnut Grove for the past 20 years. He was a retired boiler operator from Cox Medical Systems after thirty years of service, and was a member of the Walnut Grove First Baptist Church.
Richard Barker and Laura Combs were united in marriage on April 10, 1965. To this union three children were born. Together, Richard and Laura were privileged to share over 50 years together. He was preceded in death by his parents.
He is survived by his loving family: wife, Laura of the home; three children: Rachelle L. and husband Michael J. McKee of Springfield, Mo., Richard Allen Barker, Jr. of Nixa, Missouri and Eric L. and wife Cheryl A. Barker of Republic, Mo; 4 grandchildren: Brittany Barker, Kayla Barker, Alex Barker and Christopher McKee; and two great grandchildren: Andrea Snyder and Alex Minton; one brother, Robert and wife Susan Barker of Kansas City, Mo.
Services will be held on Tuesday, March 22, 2016 at 2:00 p.m. in the
Wilson Brim Daniel Chapel, Walnut Grove, Mo. with Rev. Nolan Carrier officiating with interment following in Greene Lawn Cemetery, Walnut Grove with military honors under the auspices of the Missouri Military Honors "Bravo" Team.
Family will receive friends from 12:30 P.M. till 1:45 P.M. prior to
services in the chapel.
