Richard E. Steimel Sr., 74 of Ash Grove, passed away Monday, November 30, 2020. Richard was born on May 27, 1946 to August and Mildred (Deutman) Steimel. On October 29, 1966 Richard and Sharon Dorman were united in marriage and shared over 54 years together.

Richard moved to the Ash Grove area over 10 years ago to be closer to his family. He had been a police officer in the St. Louis area and then promoted to detective. Richard was the classic dad and grandpa with the storytelling, bad jokes, golf and enjoyment of the old school TV programs. He was an extraordinary husband, father, and papa. He loved them and always put their needs in front of his own. Richard loved talking on the phone, but he was not a fan of Facebook until he realized that he could keep up with the grandkids and all of their activities even more. He loved that he could watch their events, even when he couldn't make it there in person.

Richard is survived by his wife, Sharon Steimel; children, Kimberly Townsend and husband David, Richard Steimel Jr., and wife Amanda, David Steimel and wife Lacey, Kristine Steimel, Amanda Cox and husband Kyle, Melissa Hood and husband Shane; 16 grandchildren, Hailey, Trey, Serenity, Olivia, Caydin, Christopher, Kelsea, Julian, Jayce, Ryley, Kayleigh, Braylon, Cameron, Jared, Keyera, Colson; great grandchildren, Holland and Baby Lane on the way; nieces, Rosanne, Jeanne; beloved horses, Dude and Jodie; other family and many friends.

Richard is preceded in death by his parents and sister, Carolyn.

Visitation will be from 1:00PM until service time, Friday, December 4, 2020 at Wilson-Griffin Funeral Home, Ash Grove, Missouri. Funeral services will begin at 2:00PM, at the funeral home, with burial to follow at Ash Grove, Cemetery. The family requests face masks be worn for those attending the services.

In lieu of flowers memorial donations can be made in Richard's name to the American Heart Association and may be left at the funeral home.
