Thomas Patterson
Mcphail
March 10, 1936 – March 22, 2022
Thomas Patterson McPhail, 86 of Walnut Grove, passed away on Tuesday morning, March 22, 2022.
Tom was born March10, 1936 in Laing, West Virginia to William and Annie (Jolly) McPhail. Tom "Tucker" grew up around the coal mines of the Cabin Creek area. Tom enlisted in the Army at age 17 and was stationed in Texas where he met his best friend Bill Green, whose wife Donna, would introduce him to the love of his life, Sue Holman. Tom and Sue were united in marriage on November 1, 1954. Together they were privileged to share over 56 years, before Sue's passing in 2011. Tom and Sue built a life in Walnut Grove operating the Dairy Queen for many years. They later moved to Independence, MO where Tom was a self-employed contractor, working construction. Tom and Sue returned to Walnut Grove in 1992 where he continued doing construction work around the Walnut Grove area until he retired.
Tom is survived by two sons, Tom McPhail and wife Denise of Ash Grove, and Tim McPhail and wife Brenda of Republic; five grandchildren: Chrissi Robinson of Greenfield, Josh McPhail and wife Amanda of Strafford, Annie Scammell and husband Michael of Republic, Thomas McPhail and wife Josey of Republic, Grace McPhail and fiancé Colby Durst of Ash Grove; ten great-grandchildren: Caleb, Hannah, Kooper, Isaac, McCord, Vivianna, Kingston, Sterling, Megan, and Gavin; one great-great grandchild, Landry; two brothers, Jim McPhail and wife Barbara of WV, David McPhail and wife Brenda of WV; sister, Nancy Humphrey of WV; brother and sister-in-law, Bill and Donna Green of Fair Play; and a host of other nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Tom is preceded in death by his parents; wife, Sue; 3 brothers; 1 sister; and great granddaughter, McKinley Deken.
The joy of Tom's life were his grandchildren and great grandchildren, and he had the recent privilege of getting to meet his great-great granddaughter. Tom enjoyed going to ballgames and watching his grandchildren play. He could always be counted on to be sitting in his "seat" at the Walnut Grove ballgames. He always enjoyed teasing everyone and not a week went by that he wasn't up at Mays playing his numbers.
Visitation will be from 6:00PM-8:00PM, Friday, March 25, 2022, at Wilson-Griffin Funeral Home, Walnut Grove. Funeral services will be 2:00PM, Saturday, March 26, 2022, at the funeral home, with internment to follow at Pleasant Ridge Cemetery, Aldrich, MO.
