Vernon Austin Macom, of Springfield, departed this life on Monday, January 22, 2018, at the age of 84.

Vernon was born on February 3, 1933 to W.M. Austin and Ella (Birdwell) Macom, in Hollister, MO.

Vernon graduated from Hollister High School in 1952.  After graduating high school, he faithfully served his country, and was stationed in Korea during 1953-1955. He retired in 1998 from Burd and Fletcher after working there for 32 years.  He was a member of the Local 16C Graphic Communication International Union.  Vernon was an avid sports fan and loved March Madness, and Kanas City Royals.  However, the Kanas City Chiefs were his absolute favorite team to root for. He also loved visiting with the crew at McDonalds on Glenstone.  Vernon will be fondly remembered and greatly missed by all those that knew and loved him.

Vernon is survived by his son, Steven Macom and companion Torrey Johnson; daughter Rhonda Stepp and husband Eddie; 3 grandchildren; 6 great grandchildren; three sisters, Retha Minor, Barbara Herd, Vada Houston; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, other family and many friends.

Vernon was preceded in death by his parents; brother and sister.

Visitation will be Friday, January 26, 2018, 11:00AM-noon at Wilson-Griffin Funeral Home, Ash Grove, MO.  Graveside services will be Friday at 12:30PM at White Chapel Memorial Gardens, Springfield, MO.

In lieu of flowers memorial donations can be made to American Cancer Society and may be left at the funeral home.
