William "Bill"
Lewroy Chainey
September 25, 1948 – February 7, 2022
William Lewroy "Bill" Chainey met his Lord and Savior on February 7, 2022, following a lingering illness at Cox South in Springfield, surrounded by his loving family.
Bill was born to Claude and Jewell (Hubble) Chainey in Springfield, MO on September 25, 1948. He was the 3 rd of 4 children. Bill helped his father on the farm in Higginsville, MO area. He graduated from Higginsville High School before moving to the Springfield, MO area.
Bill met the love of his life, Janice Kay Nelson from Ava, MO on a blind date arranged by a mutual friend. Bill and Janice wed on June 24, 1967. To this 55-year union, 3 incredible children were born. Timothy Aaron, Brian Dwight, and Stacy Michelle. Bill and Janice desired to raise their children in the country and moved to Clever, MO to do so.
Bill was a private, hard-working man, never allowing himself to be idle; working two jobs at SRC and Frisco Railroad in Springfield, MO to provide for his family.
He retired from Burlington Northern Railroad after 40 years of service. Bill was a top-notch mechanic, acquiring an enormous amount of knowledge and skill throughout those 40 years.
Upon his retirement, Bill and Janice purchased some land in the Walnut Grove area, fulfilling a life-long dream of farming. He often used his mechanical talents to work on farm equipment. He loved every minute of life on the farm. He was happiest when on his tractor.
Bill loved to hunt and fish; he shared this passion with all he knew. Sharing his land, his boat, and knowledge with all that sought it. Watching and attending races was another of his favorite things to do.
Bill was saved at an early age and was a member of Harold Baptist Church in Walnut Grove. He loved the Lord, showing this love not only monetarily, but also his time and talents. His generosity extended to the community of Walnut Grove. Bill was an active member of O'Sullivan's Lodge in Walnut Grove. The lodge sponsors a bluegrass festival every summer, Pickin' in the Park. Bill worked this festival passionately. All the proceeds from this festival go to the Walnut Grove School System and the community of Walnut Grove.
Bill was proceeded in death by his parents, Claude and Jewell; in-laws, Otto and Alpha Nelson; and brother-in-law, Harold Yocum.
Bill is survived by his wife, Janice of Springfield; children, Timothy Chainey and Pam Workman of Rogersville, Brian and Connie Chainey of Walnut Grove, Stacy and Don Clark of Springfield; 2 sisters, Claudette Yocum of Battlefield, Janice and Cal Cowan of Republic; brother, Johnny Chainey of Springfield; 14 grandchildren, Shelli Jo Chainey Hancock, Colton Wayne Hatfield, Emily Grace Hatfield, Joshua Michael Strader, Jelena Alyse Hunter, Jeremy Mendel Creson, Dakota Clark, Opal Medlin, Stephen Clayton, Ashlee Clayton; 12 great grandchildren, Beckett (Shelli Jo), Eli and Gideon (Joshua), Zander, Kloey, Lila, and Malachi (Jelena), Gracie and Paislie (Stephen), Kenlee (Ashlee), Dylan (Opal), Jaelyn (Dakota); along with several nephews, nieces and dear friends.
