Zalma Edwin "Barney" Toalson, 99, of Springfield, Mo. passed away on Friday evening, April 8, 2016 at 7:24 p.m. in the Manor At Elfindale, Springfield, Mo.
Barney, the son of Zalma E. and Hattie (Mix) Toalson, was born October 4, 1916 in Aldrich, Mo. He grew up in the area and graduated from Aldrich High School in 1934. Barney
moved to Springfield, Mo. and was a longtime resident. He was an Army Veteran of World War II and was a retired automobile mechanic being with Terrill-Phelps Chevrolet and Reliable Chevrolet dealerships and Motor Specialty until his retirement. He was an active and faithful member of Central Christian Church (Disciples of Christ), where he was an elder emeritus, and was a member of the Woodman of the World.
Zalma Edwin (Barney) Toalson and Mildred Parrish were united in marriage on February 23, 1952. To this union two children were born. Together, Barney and Mildred were privileged
to share over 64 years. He was preceded in death by his parents; six sisters: Marjorie Haines, Ruth Searles, Irma Hughey, Hazel Baker and two sisters in infancy; two brothers: Paul and Newell Toalson.
He is survived by his loving family: wife, Mildred of the home; son, David and wife Carolyn Toalson of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma; daughter, Gail Toalson of Houston, Texas; and grandson, Kent Toalson; Nashville, Tenn.; two sisters: Annette Myers of Riverside, California and Alison Conwill of Banning California and numerous nieces and nephews.
Services will be held on Tuesday, April 12, 2016 at 10:00 a.m. in Central Christian Church, 1475 N. Washington Springfield, Mo. with Rev. Geoff Weinman officiating with interment following in
Pleasant Ridge Cemetery, Aldrich, Mo. under the care and direction of Wilson Brim Daniel Funeral Home.
The family will receive friends from 9:30 a.m. until service time, at the church.
Military Honors will provided by the Missouri Military Honors Bravo Team.
